Active Shooter Training for Houses of Worship

by | Aug 13, 2022 | Active Threat, Active Threat Training

Did you know that there were 261 “deadly force incidents” in 2018 at houses of worship including churches, mosques, synagogues and other religious facilities like faith-based schools? As the number of active shooter related incidents rise, many houses of worship still haven’t made security or training a priority in their faith community.

At SaferSite, we believe that it’s not just enough to increase security. It’s not enough to just provide run of the mill active shooter training in a check the box fashion. Leaders in the faith community need to take a stand and empower their worship community to know what to do in the event of an active threat situation.

ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING

During our 90-minute active threat training seminar, our expert instructor will discuss and demonstrate simple solutions to complex problems. Each training session is customized for the client our instructors teach. In this training session, our instruction will discuss:

  • Important statistics of active threat events
  • Why situational awareness is important
  • The different categories of active threats
  • The mindset and preparedness of an active shooter
  • How an individual can cover or conceal themselves and what the differences between the two are
  • Extra security measures you could be taking
  • The Houston Model: Run, Hide and Fight
  • How the attacker will respond to any disruptions you cause
  • Having a plan when the attack starts, while it is happening and after it has happened

After our instructor’s presentation, he will go through your building and discuss any concerns you may have about the space and how best to proceed during an attack. For example, if you have a long hallway that goes into an open room, our instructor may suggest hiding in a blind spot and attacking, if escape is not an option.

BENEFITS OF ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING

Active threat training gives your community the knowledge, skills and attitudes that can increase their chances of saving their life, as well as another person.

Active threat training does not just benefit your faith community when they are at your house of worship; it can help in everyday life. Active threat training can be used at work, at home, in a restaurant or in a movie theater, and they have the ability to share their knowledge with other people.

Having an active threat plan, developed by an expert team of security and safety professionals, will allow everyone to know what to do if an event were to occur, allowing for a decrease in fear and an unknowingness of what to do or where to go and an increase in survivors.

OUR EXPERTS VS THE OTHER GUYS

At SaferSite, we don’t train the experts. We are the experts. Our team is comprised of federal agents, military and Department of Defense instructors and former law enforcement officers. This team was hand-picked because of their experience and our belief that there is a need for high-quality active shooter training that is customized for the space you are in.

Don’t settle for run of the mill training that anyone can become a trainer in. Our experts can evaluate your unique situation and environment to develop a strategy to protect you and your faith community.

HOW CAN ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING BE FUNDED FOR YOUR HOUSE OF WORSHIP?

We believe that the places that are most vulnerable to active shooter situations are those who have the least amount of financial resources to devote to training. That’s why we would like to encourage members of your house of worship to donate active shooter training to you. If a member of your community has expressed interest in providing training to the community, they can receive 25% off the cost of training. They can receive tax deductions, positive community involvement and provide a safer community.
